Studies conducted by fuel card companies have shown a significant savings when companies use vehicle tracking systems in order to reduce their fuel consumption. It is possible to save thousands of pounds each year with a fleet company by using fuel cards too.
A fuel card is set up one of two ways. The first is offering a discount at the pump where one saves a few pence off the current price. The second option is fixing a price at the pump. This fixed price can be lower or higher than the current price at the pump. Given the current fuel prices those who have a fuel card can expect the car to offer a lower fixed price for the next several months.
GPS tracking allows a driver to plan out their route and double check the route as they drive. They will have a GPS fix to their location and the tracking device will give instructions on where to drive. Many devices also limit the speed a driver can go in order to eliminate wasted fuel at high speeds. The programme reports back to headquarters about driver behaviour in order to help with driver retraining and lowering fuel consumption.
